Pivotal Times That Change Everything

Today I am feeling reflective & inspired to write to you about looking at those pivotal times when the trajectory of our lives completely changed and how that maps onto the larger story of our lives. Steve Jobs, one of the co-founders of technology giant Apple, was known to have said: "You can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backward."

Does this statement line up with your own personal experience?

I've previously written about a pivotal time in my life in 2008 when things were pretty low and there was a small part of me (call it survival instincts) that knew something needed to change or I would soon be hitting rock bottom. The catalyst of change for me was participating in a 3-day transformational course called the Landmark Forum. Life was never the same after that and it prompted me to put myself on a path to self-discovery and self-realization that continues to this day.

In the personal growth industry, we often refer to this gateway into our personal development journey as a move from "To Me" consciousness into "By Me" consciousness, a growth space where we stop playing the blame game and holding a predominantly victim mentality to one where we begin to take complete & full responsibility for how our life is going. You can read about my personal story on my website. I'm also writing more about this and other stories in my upcoming teaching memoir, Becoming HER: A Love Story.

I suspect Steve Jobs was on to something, though. When we are going through a transition time in our lives, we may have little or no awareness that a major shift is happening, and we are not able to be fully present to the gifts and blessings that change delivers until much later. It's only when we allow a certain amount of time to go by that those changes become fully integrated and living within us that they can show us the significance of those changes and reflect back to us the contrast between how it is now compared to how it once was.

In the fall of 2016, after working for a company for 14 years, another catalyst showed up for me in the form of a job position being eliminated all of sudden that immediately sent my career in another direction. Within 24 hours of receiving the news about my job, I received a very clear message from my intuition that I was not meant to find work with another employer ever again. It was clear that now was the time to take the reins and be my own boss from that day forward. Losing that job was a blessing in disguise. Don't they often come that way?

In August of 2017, I attended a 6-day seminar called The Matrixx taught by Bob Proctor that would plant more seeds about me becoming a full-fledged business owner & entrepreneur and choosing a life of service helping others. At the time, I wasn't 100% clear what that would look like, but the inevitability of it was certain to me even then. During that seminar and many times in the years that followed as I was studying and being mentored by Bob, he would always say that we only ever need to have a clear vision of where we want to go and the "how" to get there will unfold in front of our eyes if we're paying attention and taking guided actions & steps that move us ever closer to the fulfillment of that vision.

If you have a dream in your heart and are struggling with the belief that it could ever be possible for you, let me be the first to tell you that ANYTHING is possible. The fact that you have the dream - the desire - in the first place tells me that it's entirely possible. The more important questions to be asking yourself are: "What is it that I truly want? Is this dream something that I truly want or is this someone else's dream for me?".

If you can answer those questions and you're both willing and able to pursue the dream you have, then what are you waiting for?

Sometimes all we need is the right catalyst - a signpost that guides us on our path. Let this love note be yours. Personally I have 2 coaches and several support communities helping me to fulfill my ultimate vision. None of us is meant to do this alone and I'd love to help you take the next right steps in the direction of your dream. Reach out and schedule a free call with me.
